Advertisement Analysis: Bad 5/15 [Fluid Salon]

Cons:

  • This ad trivialises domestic abuse. It seems to say that it doesn't matter if you are abused, as long as you still have good hair.
  • The model's hair looks really messy and unkempt does not "look good" at all.
  • It does not convey how this salon is better than others or what it's unique selling points are
  • The patterned sofa that takes centre stage adds interest but is a little distracting

Pros:

  • It is an eye-catching image
  • The interesting colour scheme (unnameable colours) gives it an high class look

Overall:

I don't think that this ad is that bad. It definitely invites controversy but the message that, you can look good no matter what when we handle your hair, is a clever one. Maybe instead of using the context of domestic abuse, they can set the ad in an office with a lady frustrated with a photocopy machine. It would be important to make sure that the model used actually has hair that looks good instead of messy hair like in this example.
