Photography Assignment: Connections at Clarke Quay

The assignment: Take a series of photographs depicting connections. Let your photos tell a story.

It was drizzling. We had one hour to get this done and pick three pictures to present when we got back to class. Thankfully, the Clarke Quay area in Singapore is quite picturesque and has lots of people milling around!

Stepped out of school and got my first shot. The connection is between the ice-cream seller and the buyer. This picture has too many distracting elements in the background though!

Singapore River Cruise

A tourist favourite... the bumboats a.k.a. the Singapore River Cruise! Which I might add, is quite an overpriced ride nowadays. Love the connection seen with the man holding out his hand to help the lady onto the boat.

Here's my favourite one. Two smokers. They're connected in that similarity but yet contrasting as the lady stands lonely, by herself while the man chats with his group of friends.

Another connection through contrast. The young couple stand, enjoying life and each other while the old man is asleep on the steps, solitary and helplessly.

A simple and more usual depiction of connection, a couple going shopping together, framed with the flowers which are also associated with love.

Lastly, on my way back to class, the connection between two forms of transportation.

I had lots of fun! Doing this really reminded me of playing the game "Apples to Apples". Definitely applied techniques I learnt from there!
