I am...

a marketing, advertising and design student, working my way to a career in design. My journey started in 2007 when I took a 2-week desktop publishing course in America and discovered I could design all day without getting tired! Since then, I've been taking little steps in the direction until I finally decided to take a big step and enroll in my current diploma program. I love how Stefan Sagmeister says "Hobbies are for people who don't like what they're doing." I most definitely agree!

Typography is such a fun subject and one I really enjoy! I didn't quite know before taking this module about how some designers are crazy about certain fonts e.g. Helvetica. I definitely didn't know that making font posters was something that many designers do and collect.</div>

Anyways, this poster aims to bring out the timelessness of the Franklin Gothic font. An earlier version was more literal with the fonts resembling a clock but this version simply alludes to timelessness through the gold colour and classic design. </div>

I was pretty glad that I was assigned a nice font (in my opinion) for this project as I didn't like a few of the fonts my classmates got! </div>

If there's one thing a perfectionist hates, it's having another perfectionist critique his/her work. I have to admit that I am most times a perfectionist. I like to have things done until its just right - no half-past six work from me! While that can be a good trait, taken out of balance it makes me waste time on unimportant details and resistant to other's feedback about my work.</div>

At the same time though, learning to accept feedback is definitely a needed skill. As I grow as a designer, it is my goal to also challenge myself to listen to what others have to say and acknowledge that they might have valid points. </div>

Every hour spent on education, every word searched on google brings us one step closer to our goal. However, despite it all, there will always be things that we do not know about. As humans, we have a limited capacity for  knowledge. We can’t know everything! </span></span><br />

John Lennon acknowledged that knowledge can be difficult to live with when he said: “living is easy with eyes closed”. Another oft heard quote reiterates: “ignorance is bliss”. So, which is better? To know or not to know, that is the question.</span></span><br />

Suppose one day, as I looked out of the window from my apartment on the thirteenth floor, I had this overwhelming urge to jump out of the window just because. That is stupidity, you would say. Yet, if I knew nothing about the law of gravity and had no idea of the consequences of such an action, wouldn’t I be safe from what I did not know? Of course not! Whether or not I’m aware of the law of gravity, the law still applies to me. Ignorance isn’t bliss because what we do not know will still hurt us.</span></span><br />

Today, we know due to images from space, among other facts, that the earth is spherical. Maybe we don’t hallucinate but I would argue that we are deluded. Whether direct or subtle, the media today sends us messages that cause us to be deluded. If you don’t have such and such then you will never be happy, it says. If you don’t look a certain way then you’re not good enough, it tells you. You can live an immoral life and not suffer any consequences, it continues. </span></span><br />
